About Us

Along the beautiful Flat Rock River, near Waldron, Indiana, live two 7th generation farm girls, Ava and Bremley Doig. They are also 4th generation cattlewomen. Their great grandparents, Garnett and Gene Jones, received two horned Hereford cows for a wedding present 70 years ago, and introduced these docile, adaptable cattle to River Bend’s rolling pastures.

The girl’s grandmother, Leslie Doig, began showing cattle 50 years ago. Their father, Bill G., has served as a Junior Director for the National Hereford Youth, and has showed on the national and international level for 25 years. Ava and Bremley’s grandfather, “Doc”, has a veterinary practice in Waldron. He loves to travel to the shows and can usually be found helping in the wash rack or leading one into the show ring. Their mother, Joni, a graduate of the Ohio State University, grew up near Rushville, Indiana. Coincidentally, the Flat Rock River flows near her home farm as well. She is an avid cattlewoman and has taken on the marketing and advertising duties at River Bend.

Leslie keeps the farm running by keeping everyone organized, the stalls cleaned and being “Grandma” to Ava and her little sister, Bremley. She and the girls spend quality time roaming the pastures and checking cows together.

An Animal Science major and member of the Purdue University livestock judging team, Bill got his MS in Ruminant Nutrition at the University of Kentucky. While there, he coached the UK livestock judging team. He judges across the United States and in Canada. Bill has served as a director for the Indiana Hereford Association. Bill stays busy during the summer judging several open and 4-H shows.

It is the mission of all of us at River Bend Farms to have a family operation that provides life experiences and quality time, while promoting high quality Hereford cattle. We want to share and teach others about livestock, and have hosted local 4-Hers for fitting, showmanship, and nutrition clinics.

Each summer you can find us on the road headed to Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky State fairs. Ava and Bremley will be looking for you to stop by the stalls for a visit!
